Paul Dougherty, a past president of the Maryland chapter of the National Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors, was recently elected to the trade group’s national board of trustees.
Dougherty, an agent for State Farm in Hyattsville, Md., was elected by special election for a one-year term. As part of the 17-member board of trustees, Dougherty will help formulate policy to benefit NAIFA members.
“Paul has successfully held leadership positions at NAIFA at both the state and local level, and I am pleased to welcome him to this new role on our Board of Trustees,” said NAIFA President Terry K. Headley in a statement.
Dougherty, a Potomac, Md., native and Upper Marlboro, Md., resident, was recognized with the Maryland NAIFA chapter’s highest honor, the Paul J. Murphy Award, and a position within the Maryland Hall of Fame – the first time the award has been presented to a sitting president in the association’s 50-plus-year history. He also served as the local president of NAIFA-Prince Georges County, where he was named Agent of the Year in 2005.
He has served as the chairman of the NAIFA-Maryland’s political action committee (IFAPAC), and has been a member of the insurance industry’s Joint Legislative Committee for the last several years.
He is the current chairmain of the State Farm Agent’s and Associates of Maryland PAC.
