A chiropractor from the Philadelphia, Pa., area was sentenced to three years in federal prison for his role in a $1.9 million insurance fraud case.

Joseph Lerner, 50, falsified patient symptoms and findings in documents submitted to insurance companies to generate the money between 2007 and 2010, authorities said.

Lerner operated a gym and health club in Horsham, Pa., where he enticed people to enroll by saying they if they paid a $10 insurance copayment they could receive massages and personal training, according to prosecutors.

Lerner also was ordered to pay restitution for the scam.
