Nearly half (48%) of Medicare supplemental coverage providers expect to grow this year, while another 40% of providers surveyed said they expect sales to match their 2010 levels.
In a survey from Gen Re, the two most common challenges facing Medicare supplement providers for the second straight year were competition and sales growth.
The survey involved 58 companies, representing 61% of the overall Medicare supplement market, which accounts for about $12 billion in annualized premium.
The most frequently mentioned corporate challenges were competition and federal health reform, according to the 2010 Medicare Supplement Market Survey.
