A Shreveport, La., police officer and two others were arrested and each charged with one count of insurance fraud for allegedly misreporting a stolen vehicle and burning it for insurance money.

Aisha Barnes, 28, while employed as a Shreveport police officer, reported that her 2008 Chevrolet Trail Blazer was stolen. She then called her automobile insurance carrier and filed a claim seeking restitution, according to the Louisiana State Police.

The car was later found engulfed in flames near Blanchard, La.

Kaneesha Knuckles, 21, and Barnes’s brother Thomas Williams, 32, also allegedly conspired to have the vehicle stolen and burned in an effort to defraud the insurance company, which was not identified.

Barnes, Williams, and Knuckles confessed their involvement in the crime during an interview with detectives.

Barnes was seeking to receive payment for the lost of her vehicle in order to relieve some of her existing financial burdens, according to the authorities.

She resigned her position prior to the issuing of arrest warrants.
