Coventry, pharmacies align on new Medicare drug plan alternative
A Maryland-based national health insurer is partnering with several big retail pharmacies to offer new Medicare prescription drug plan called First Health Value Plus.
Bethesda, Md.-based Coventry Health Care said in a statement that its new Medicare prescription drug plan is the “lowest premium, zero-dollar deductible Part D plan” in the U.S.
The deal allows members to fill their prescriptions at more then 14,00 Walgreens, Wal-Mart and Target locations. The preferred network pharmacy benefit design allows members to receive free Tier 1 formulary prescriptions (most generics and select branded drugs) when filled at any Walgreens, Walmart, or Target pharmacy before reaching the coverage gap or “donut hole.”
Annual savings from First Health Value Plus could make it “a competitive alternative” to the lowest premium stand-alone Part D plan that includes a deductible, according to the company.
The premiums range from $21.70 to $30.10 a month, with no deductible.
