BrickStreet Mutual Insurance Co., a West Virginia-based workers compensation insurer that recently bought a Pennsylvania company has plans to expand into the Maryland market.
The company also writes business in Virgnia.
Earlier this year, BrickStreet acquired PennCommonwealth Casualty of America, a mono-line workers compensation insurer based in Canonsburg, Pa.
“In order for BrickStreet to remain a financially strong company…we need to continue to grow and diversify,” said Greg Burton, BrickStreet president and CEO when announcing the Pennsylvania acquisition, adding, “a fundamental way to do that is through expansion.”
A company spokesperson told Insurance & Financial Advisor that BrickStreet is looking to expand into the Maryland market in the next 18-24 months.
The company also recently expanded into North Carolina and Indiana.
BrickStreet became West Virginia’s first private workers’ compensation carrier in 2006, and currently writes in a total of seven states, which includes Illinois and Kentucky.
