JUNE 2009 --The Professional Insurance Agents of New Jersey and Professional Insurance Agents of New York State held their Joint Annual Conference, the Northeast’s largest gathering of insurance industry professionals, June 7-9 at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, N.J.

Nearly 2,000 agents, company representatives, exhibitors and other insurance industry professionals came together for continuing education programs, a trade show, awards presentations, social events and networking opportunities.

One educational session offered “a roadmap for agency success,” and was moderated by PIANJ Vice President Keith Savino, of the Warwick Resource Group, with panelists Steve Anderson of The Anderson Network; David Madara of Bollinger; and Robert Franzese, principal emeritus of Capital Bauer Agency. Other educational sessions were led by Karl J. Duff, Steven D. Lyon, Keith Savino, Renee Azelby and Ivan Cohen.

The PIA also presented its 2009 Distinction of Professionalism Awards, honoring the industry’s most dedicated professionals, and the 25th annual Fun Run to benefit Special Olympics New Jersey along the boardwalk, hosted by the New Jersey Young Insurance Professionals.

APRIL 2009-Savoy Associates’ Joe Torella, vice president of business development, interviewed Ward Sanders, president of the Association of Health Plans (NJAHP), April 21 before more than 100 insurance industry professionals. This two-hour town hall luncheon examined serious concerns with the state and national healthcare delivery system, the need for new and more innovative financing strategies, and a call for greater involvement by the consulting and brokerage community. Torella, a 20-year industry veteran, moderated the event for the North, Central and Monmouth-Ocean chapters of the New Jersey Association of Health Underwriters, who sponsored this event for its members.
