Bankers Life experienced a 26% increase in its pre-tax operating earnings, which, along with a boost in life and Medicare supplement sales, led its parent, Conseco, to report $15.4 million in net income in the quarter.
Carmel, Ind.-based Conseco received regulatory approvals to have Wilton Reassurance Co. coinsure about 104,00 non-core life insurance policies, the company said.
Conseco plans to consolidate two of its insurance subsidiaries into a third one, Washington National Insurance Co., as a means of raising capital and its consolidated risk-based capital ratio.
