A bill has been introduced in the New York Senate that would provide protection to insurance agents from abusive practices involving certificates of insurance.

A meeting involving several insurance trade groups in New York March 11 will seek to develop a unified response to federal health reform and the role agents will play in the state.

Two insurance trade groups in New York have filed notice indicating they will appeal the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division’s decision upholding the state insurance department’s broker disclosure rule.

An insurance agent trade group praised the New York State Insurance Department’s draft regulation that will allow insurance producers to use out-of-state and Internet-based banks.

While it plans legal action to stop a proposed producer compensation disclosure rule, the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York is still offering its suggestions to state regulators to aid its members.
