Donegal Group acquired a Michigan-based insurance company as part of its progression into the Midwest.

Donegal Financial Services Corp. announced an agreement to merge with fellow Pennsylvania institution Union National Financial Corp. in a move to enhance its financial service offerings.

Citing areas including the companies’ “excellent risk-adjusted capitalization” and “historically favorable operating performance,” A.M. Best affirmed the ratings of the Donegal Insurance Group and its members.

Donegal Mutual Insurance Co., a Marietta, Pa.-based regional property-casualty insurer, paid $105,000 to settle a claim that it used unlicensed copies of Microsoft software installed on its computers
