North Carolina’s insurance commissioner says his office generated a record amount of monetary restitution and recoveries, doubling its recoveries from 2009.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies’ anti-fraud investigations resulted in recoveries of more than $510 million in 2009, according to data released by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA).
The New York State Insurance Department announced it has recovered $13.6 million from insurance companies over consumer complaints filed between April 1 and June 30.
As a direct result of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) – also known as ObamaCare – health insurance agent and broker commissions have been slashed by as much as 50%. Agencies have been forced to lay off employees, limit products and services, shift to other lines, and have seen significant drops in compensation.
